How to submit Intrastat declarations in 2024

When Europe’s internal borders opened on 1 January 1993, all formalities and customs documents were omitted. However, the statistical obligation remained. Each European Union member state compiles statistics on its external trade, i.e. statistics relating to cross-border trade in goods. Intrastat declarations are crucial for these statistics and the understanding of intra-Community trade.

What?

Intrastat declarations are mandatory reports by VAT taxpayers when they trade goods with other EU member states, unless they do not exceed a certain annual threshold. These declarations contain detailed information on the quantity, value and nature of the goods traded. By collecting this data, the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) can form an accurate picture of trade flows within Europe, which is very important for compiling reliable statistics.

Logging in as from 2024

You send this Intrastat declaration to the National Bank via the online application OneGate. However, to increase the security level and streamline access, the login process will be different from 2024 onwards. Logging in via OneGate will only be possible via CSAM or electronic certificates, so no longer via user name and password.

This change will apply to both Belgian and foreign companies.

Impact on foreign companies:

For foreign companies, this change may become a challenge. They will have to apply for digital keys, which they can do through a local registration office or during an appointment with the authorised services.

Of course, Van Havermaet can always act as a third party declarant if you give us the necessary powers of attorney.

Feel free to contact us for all possibilities. Our colleagues are ready to assist with the new procedure!
